A customizable Blueprint system for creating animated kites that
respond dynamically to wind direction, speed and movement.

OVERVIEW

A reusable system for dynamic, customizable kites

The Procedural Kite System is an Unreal Engine Blueprint tool
designed to generate and control animated kites inside real-time
environments.

Artists and developers can customize each kite while the system
automatically manages orientation, movement, wind response and
the connection between the kite and its control point.

Multiple kite variations running simultaneously inside Unreal Engine 5.
THE CHALLENGE

Turning wind parameters into natural and readable motion

The main challenge was creating movement that felt dynamic without
requiring every kite to be animated manually.

The system needed to translate wind direction and speed into stable
movement while preserving variation between multiple kites and
maintaining a believable connection with their strings.

MY CONTRIBUTION

Designing the procedural system

I developed the complete Blueprint logic, movement behaviour and
artist-facing controls used to create and animate the kites.

01

Wind Response

Built a system that converts wind direction and intensity into
kite orientation, movement and behavioural variation.

02

Procedural Movement

Developed target-based movement and smoothing logic to create
continuous motion without hand-authored animation.

03

Customization

Exposed controls for colour, dimensions, movement range, wind
strength and other visual or behavioural parameters.

04

Reusable Blueprint

Structured the tool as a reusable system that can support
multiple kite variations inside different Unreal environments.

OUTCOME

A flexible tool for real-time scenes and interactive projects

The final result is a reusable Blueprint system capable of managing
several kites simultaneously while maintaining individual movement
and visual variation.

The project also became the foundation for an Unreal Engine tutorial,
demonstrating how procedural logic can transform a simple visual
element into a flexible production tool.
