Turning a limited physical area into an impossible world
The Realm of Illusions is a location-based VR experience designed
for public exhibitions. Visitors move through a sequence of environments
built around altered perception, impossible spaces and interactive
optical illusions.
The experience was developed for an approximately 8 × 8 metre physical
area, while the virtual environment creates the impression of a much
larger and continuously transforming world.

and impossible architecture.
Designing for both virtual and physical space
The project had to preserve the sensation of exploration while keeping
visitors safely inside a defined real-world area. Every corridor,
transition and interaction therefore had to work simultaneously as
visual storytelling and spatial guidance.
The installation also needed to remain understandable for visitors
with different levels of familiarity with virtual reality.
From visual design to real-time implementation
Experience Design
Development of the visitor journey, spatial progression and
relationship between the physical installation and virtual space.
Interactive Systems
Implementation of interactions, environmental reactions and
real-time behaviours in Unreal Engine.
Visual Development
Creation and integration of environments based on optical illusions,
altered scale and impossible architecture.
Exhibition Development
Adaptation, testing and optimization of the experience for repeated
use in a public installation.

An exhibition-ready immersive experience
The final experience combines environmental storytelling,
interaction and perceptual illusion in a format designed for
continuous public use.
The project demonstrates how real-time technology can expand a limited
physical footprint into an engaging and memorable spatial experience.
